Battle Royale was originally a novel written in 1996 and published in 1999, the movie (this) was released in 2000. Suzanne "Turn Asians into Hillbillies" Collins had the Hunger Games book released in 2008. She denied everything except having heard the name "Battle Royale" before, and she says that she asked her editor about it and he said not to look into it because he "didn't want that world in her mind" like a damn child. Obviously there was some copying involved, and her editor knew about it.
